BA Chapter 8

I found this to be an interesting read, but it didn't seem to fit in with the other book chapters. Then again an argument can be made that we learn more from mistakes than successes. Guardian was Tandem's solution for a fault tolerant system developed in the 1970's. They eliminated single points of failure by duplicating hardware to make a extremely reliable system.

I found it interesting that one of the big things about operating systems today is how secure they are, but Guardian didn't really put too much thought into security. Of course their first objective was to design it to be fault tolerant, but I still think a little more emphasis could have been placed in security. They used a privileged bit to distinguish privileged code. It seems to me that this could be very easy to get around.
